Burn wood, heat house, release toxins
Last century, I was one of those who installed a wood-burning stove to heat the house, thinking that coal, gas and other fossil fuels were "bad for the environment". When we relocated further north in the UK, the house we chose did not have a chimney or flue of any kind, and was far from the gas distribution infrastucture, so we went all-electric. From time to time I consider other energy sources, but the cost of changing never seems worthwhile over the medium term. Perhaps the air-source heat pump is a solution, as this Guardian article suggests: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/dec/27/wood-burning-stove-environment-home-toxins.
